Expanded presence marks major milestone in IPP strategy and will help meet Desert Southwest’s rising energy demand

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — September 15, 2026 — Avantus, a leading developer, owner and operator of utility-scale solar and storage projects, today announced the official opening of its new headquarters in downtown San Diego. The new office reflects the company's continued success and long-term commitment to the region. It also marks a significant step in Avantus’ growth as an independent power producer (IPP) and in attracting world-class talent as it builds its portfolio across California and the Desert Southwest.

Avantus evaluated locations across California before selecting downtown San Diego. The city’s strong talent pipeline, drawn from local research universities, the military community and California’s energy sector, was a key factor in the company’s decision. Over the past year, Avantus has significantly expanded its local team, growing capabilities across engineering, development, project finance and operations to deliver on its mission to meet the region’s growing energy demand.

Avantus’ downtown headquarters is expanding across two floors and supports a team of 50 and counting. Its design mirrors the company’s identity and its people: a collaborative, bright and modern space inspired by Avantus’ Desert Southwest footprint. The central location also offers convenient access to the Santa Fe Depot Amtrak station and San Diego International Airport.

Founded in 2009, Avantus has long been a leader in next-generation solar and storage, having developed some of the nation’s largest projects in operation today. With strategic backing from KKR and EIG in 2024, the company launched its transition to an IPP. The office opening comes amid significant momentum as the company expands from developer to owner and operator. The company recently closed a $1.05 billion corporate credit facility, doubling its previous financing capacity and reflecting strong investor confidence in its strategy and execution. In July, Avantus brought online its first solar and storage project under its operating platform and continues to advance dozens of projects across California and the Desert Southwest through development, financing and construction.
