Aratina 2 in Kern County to deliver 150 MW of solar and 452 MWh of energy storage

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — November 18, 2025 Avantus announced today that it has signed 15-year power purchase agreements (PPA) with Southern California Edison (SCE) for the Aratina 2 project, located in eastern Kern County, California. The project will provide 150 MWac/184 MWdc of solar generation and 452 MWh of battery storage capacity to the California grid, enough to power approximately 75,000 homes each year.

“The agreements with SCE mark another milestone in our mission to deliver reliable, affordable clean energy to Californians,” said Valerie Barros, Avantus Executive Vice President of Origination and Energy Markets. “By integrating solar with storage, Aratina 2 will enhance grid reliability and help meet California’s energy demand with clean and dependable power.”

Onsite work for the project began with Aratina 1 shared equipment earlier this year, and major construction is expected to ramp up in 2026. Aratina 2 is targeted to begin operations and offer energy to SCE that same year.

Aratina 2 will create approximately 300 union construction jobs, generate tax revenue to support Kern County public services, and will provide permanent operations and maintenance jobs throughout its operating life.

Avantus plans to maintain an ownership stake and operate Aratina 2, together with Aratina 1, as part of its expanding independent power producer (IPP) strategy. The company is committed to long-term ownership and community partnerships that deliver local benefits.

Avantus has played a key role in helping strengthen California’s grid with reliable, affordable clean energy. The company has developed more than 20 projects now operating or under construction across the state, totaling over 3 GW solar and 7 GWh of storage. Building on this track record, Avantus is developing one of the nation’s largest clean energy pipelines, with 24 GWdc of solar and 75 GWh of energy storage under development across California and the Desert Southwest.
