How We Hire: A Guide for Candidates
Jun 12, 2025

At Avantus, we’re developing one of the nation’s largest clean energy portfolios. That kind of scale demands a team that’s fast-moving, collaborative, and committed to creating a more prosperous future.
We look for people who think critically, lead with integrity, and take pride in solving tough problems together. Every employee owns equity in the company, and we value those who take that ownership seriously—by speaking up, following through, and supporting each other in pursuit of shared goals.
We know interviewing can be stressful, so we’ve designed our process to be clear, respectful and transparent. Our recruiting team works closely with hiring managers to make sure you’re set up for success every step of the way.
This is also your chance to interview us. We want you to feel confident that Avantus is the right fit for your next chapter.

Application Process
What criteria does Avantus use to review applications?
We recognize each role varies in required background, experience, and responsibilities, and we outline the criteria in each of our job descriptions. That said, we encourage people to apply even if they do not fit the specifications exactly.
What does the hiring team look for in cover letters or writing samples?
While we do seek specific experience in our roles, we are also seeking individuals who believe in our mission and are passionate about clean energy. We want to know what connects you to our mission, why you’d like to work with us and what qualities or interests you possess that attract you to the particular role that you’re applying for. Are you able to show a track record of success or sustained focus or effort in a particular area that is aligned with the job?
Where do you hire? What are the expectations for hybrid or remote work?
We hire across the United States, with a focus on California and the West, where our projects and key stakeholders are located. Many roles offer flexibility in where and how you work. At the same time, we’re a collaborative team and plan for in-person meetings and events several times throughout the year. Expectations will be clearly communicated during the hiring process.
Above all, we value teamwork, accountability, and strong communication—whether working from our San Diego office, remote, or somewhere in between.

Interview Process
What is the interview process like?
If you are selected to move into the interview process, Avantus will schedule an interview for you with one of our recruiters. This is a discovery interview to chat about the role and for us to learn more about you, your background, and your career aspirations.
If all goes well, we will invite you for a second round of interviews with one or two members of the team, either in person or via online video interview. (Please note: the majority of our interviews are conducted with video via Zoom.) The final round involves meeting some cross-functional team members. Our recruiter will keep you informed every step of the way about who you’ll meet in each round.
Depending on the role, some positions may have a technical assessment as part of the interview process.
How formal are your interviews?
The format of our interviews is very conversational. We aim to create an environment where you can openly and transparently talk about yourself. We hope to eliminate the stress that’s associated with something as serious as looking for a new job and also want to present the role and Avantus as candidly as possible. Our goal is to provide you the opportunity to have your questions answered as well.
Who will be the applicant’s main point of contact throughout the process?
Our recruiter will be in touch with you throughout the entire process. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
How long is the entire interview process?
Timelines vary from role to role and the number of applicants going through the process. Our goal will always be to find the best candidate for the job, and we continue interviewing until we find the right person. We always try to keep candidates progressing through the rounds as quickly as possible.
Offer
How does Avantus notify an applicant of an offer?
We are in constant communication with our candidates throughout the process. When we are ready to make an offer, we have a pre-offer conversation to ensure we are all on the same page so that there are no surprises. Successful candidates will receive their offer in writing from the recruiter.
How long do applicants have to sign an offer letter?
Roughly about 5 business days, extendable on a case-by-case basis. At the end of the day, we want our new team member to be excited to work with us and not feel pressured to join by a deadline.
Once an offer is accepted, the Avantus onboarding team will walk you through the pay schedule, benefits, insurance, and equipment. We do have multiple check-ins prior to the official start date to ensure all the fine details are covered.
This all sounds great! Where can I find your open positions and apply?
The best place to find our job openings is on our Careers page and we also post our jobs on LinkedIn. Other places you’ll find our job openings include Indeed, Glassdoor, Handshake and industry specific publications such as WRISE.
Additionally, our employees are our best advocates, and we are fortunate to receive a large number of employee referrals who have been successfully hired.
We also participate in careers fairs, host networking events and attend industry-related conferences. Follow us on LinkedIn to stay up-to-date with our latest announcements and conferences. to stay up-to-date with our latest announcements and conferences.
